The Birth of Brody | Springfield IL Birth Photographer

Many of my birth stories begin with a call in the middle of the night or a mid-day text saying they are heading to the hospital.  This story is a bit different.  Several weeks before his birth day we knew when Brody would be entering this world.   Given his mom’s prior birth with her daughter, the doctor made a decision to do a scheduled c-section.   Heading into the weeks before his schedule arrival date, his mom sent me e-mail updates after her appointments and the sooner we got to that date, the sooner we knew he would be coming into this world on his scheduled arrival date.

With mom and dad expected at the hospital nice and early (5:30am) I knew it would mean an early morning for myself as well.  The section was to begin at 8am but given that it is an invasive surgery there was a lot of preparation that needed to take place prior to her going into the OR. While sitting in the room waiting for 8am to roll around a variety of healthcare professionals rolled in and out of the room.  Mom and dad were cracking jokes and having fun and they had a visitor as one of mom’s friends dropped by.  Once the anesthesiologist came in and mom and dad put on their surgery prep gear though, it was go time.     While they only allow one support person in for the delivery, mom and I were hoping that they would allow me in to photograph Brody.  Personally, I was so excited when they said they would let me in.  Having had a c-section myself, I really wanted to capture the day for Brody’s mom as I know I hardly remembered much from the birth of my own daughter.

While they prepped mom in the operating room, dad and I waited patiently in a small room to get called in.   Everything went so very fast at that point and at 8:42am, little Brody Benjamin made his appearance.  Later that day his big sister got out of school and I went back to the hospital to capture it.   I cannot even begin to tell you how special it is to see a sibling meet their brother/sister for the first time. The look of curiosity and amazement is one that is so special.
